'Hi all,

I'm having no luck at all in locating a George Freeman, b. 1828-1832 in Whitehaven area, according to the 1871 and 1881 census in Middlesex. He was a mariner, rigger by trade from his marriage record in 1861 in Middlesex to a Susannah Stutchbury. His occup in 1871-1881 was a mariner or rigger and was living in Stepney area of London/Middlesex.  His father, according to the 1861 marriage record was also George Freeman, clothier. There was no suggestion his father was deceased in his marriage record.

I can not locate either father or son in the 1841, 1851 or 1861 Census'' anywhere. I realise his son my be at sea but felt he would be listed in the 1841 at least with his father or mother (unknown).  Any help at all is appreciated.

Would it have been probable that a clothier would have had a son in Cumberland and then travelled to London in 1830's or 1840's?

Thank you in advance for any help.

Hi Momo and Claire,

Thank you for your replies. Yes, I did locate that George Freeman in 1841. I just wondered if it was logical for him to be named a clothier by his son George in 1861 as he appeared to be involved in shoes prior to that. I guess it is possible. I have someone in Whitehaven going to check on any Freeman births/baptisms or marriages there as I have no other link. He may have been born there and moved with his parents to London and was then baptised.

I might see if I can find a baptism of one of the other children of George and Mary and see if it may help.

Thank you again.

Regards,

Jim

Good Morning To Everyone

Please can anyone help me with my enquiry on both 2nd g.grandparents. George Freeman Abt.1830 and Susannah Stutchbury Abt.1839 London, England.

I have very little knowledge on both of them and am trying to find George Freeman's parents???

Luckily I have attached some recent info about George's Wife Susannah Stutchbury as a result of 'rootschat' from over 16yrs ago that I've literally just seen 😳

So moving forward, I would be really grateful for anyone's help with my 3rd g.grandparents (son George Freeman Abt.1830) 🙏🏻

Thank you
