A bit of a challenge for everyone
« on: Friday 16 June 06 13:59 BST (UK) »
Right........ I'm trying to find evidence for the birth of my GGG GF John Harwood (1844, Church Lench). Until this morning I had found him on the 1861-1901 census, but not on the 1851 (strange, considering he was only 6/7). This morning I found a John HARROD, born 1844 in Church Lench (living with a family of HOLDER's and relationship stated as 'nephew's son'). I can't see a John HARROD on the later censuses, so am hoping that this mistranscription is the key to me finding some more info! So I'm back on this trail again......

I know from John's marriage certificate that he was born in Church or Sheriff's Lench in 1844, and that his father was Joseph Harwood but, as yet, I've found no evidence of a birth being recorded for him.....

Can anyone help???

That's the only thing I have at the moment - I'm just impatient as I have no spare cash due to having to pay a stupid deposit on my new flat!!!! Was hoping someone might have the CDs hanging around, have been trying to find the people who helped me with a similar question before, but can't remember the names!

It really is the most frustrating thing - I've followed all other lines from my family back to the 1600s and some even to the 1500s, but I can't get further back than 1844 with my own name!!!!

The law of the Sod, methinks!!!!

Must try busking for the few quid a certificate costs I guess....... or try and find somewhere to park in Worcester *shudders*

No idea on Mum at all to be honest (which is quite annoying).

I'm trying to wangle my dear old Dad paying for a couple of months on Ancestry again (he used to pay my fees a while back - me being a poor PhD student and all - but all has run out now *sob*)

The household (I don't have much info or an image, which is frustrating) for the 1851 is in Church Lench.

William Holder, Head, born 1797 in Forthampton, Glos.
Charlotte Holder, Wife, born 1803 in Church Lench, Worcs.
Mary Holder, Daughter, born 1834 in Church Lench, Worcs.
John Harrod, nephew's son, born 1844 in Church Lench, Worcs.

I'm not even sure it's him, I'm just following this lead as I can't find my John Harwood with the same D & POB on the 1851 and, similarly, I can't find John HARROD on any of the following censuses - I was just wondering if the name had been written down wrong.......

But if he's a nephew's son - a great nephew - that would (if I'm right) make John HARROD's grandmother William Holder's sister??? So, if it is a mistranscription (or name change), she must have married a HARWOOD/HARROD - what do you think?

  Hi Madraykin.....

OR.. he could be nephew's son on William's wife side and so his grandmother could be her sister . Or brother his grandfather....I think I am loosing the plot on this one already... ;D

Anyway IGI has Charlotte Tandy bapt1803 Church Lench with a possible sister called Mary ( dau also called Mary so ?)

Will check some marriages the above is member submitted so not
  100%.
