FALCONNER as a Middle Name (help)
« on: Sunday 18 June 06 02:48 BST (UK) »
My 5th Great Grand Parents had these Children:

Children:   Robert (1775-)
   James (1777-1826)
   John (1779-<1851)
   George (1781-1855)
   Elizabeth (1783-)
   Mary Falconer (1785-)
   Mary (1788-)
   Joseph (1790-)
   Barbara (1795-)

Would it be fair to say Falconer could be a Married Name of their mother or Grand Mother. What is also strange is that ALL Children were Born / Christened at Larbert , EXCEPT Mary Falconner??, who was Born at St Cuthberts??ALSO many cousins were named Falconer??

Hi Leanne,

It could be any of the combinations you mention - a bit of sideways research would probably be the only way you'd find out for sure.

Just to add another angle - Falconer can also be a Christian name!

What was the surname of your 5th GGP's?

Anne

Hi Again Anne,
Mary's parents were John LAING & Barbara LAIRD. John's parents were Robert LANG & Elizabeth MITCHELL.

Hi Leanne,

Sorry, I'm getting mixed up as to who's children were whose!

The children listed above - are they the the children of Robert Lang & Elizabeth Mitchell?

I found the births of 11 children in total born to John Laing & Barbara Laird between 1799 and 1824. Third child Mary, would she be the one whose middle name is Falconner?

I couldn't find anything for Robert Lang & Elizabeth Mitchell.

I also found 2 births to a Charles Laing & Margaret Falconner/Falkoner.

These were Jean born March 1771 in Falkirk and James born December 1773 in Bothkennar. Presumably they would have been married 1770/71

Have you read the threads posted by Dano? Have a wee look - Theres a possibility you might share some common ancestors. I can vaguely remember Dano saying that one ancestor, a Farquhar Laing was also referred to as Pharchar and Falconner, but don't take this as fact, I'm only quoting from memory.

(One of the children I found born to John Laing & Barbara Laird, their 10th child born 1822 was named Pharchar . . . . .?)

Anne

I'm trying to trace LAING back as far as I can in this line.

After Robert & Elizabeth Mitchell I have Alexander Laing b.1714 & Agnes Young then John Laing b.1692 & Isobell Winchester which I'm stuck.

A) Is my research correct Robert Laing > Alexander Laing > John Laing
B) Do you have any ancestors research past John Laing b. 1692?
