Deaths in Ontario - Toms
« on: Monday 19 June 06 13:50 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I am hoping that I might be able to get some help in finding the deaths and any information that might be included of a married couple in Cardiff, Peterborough East, Ontario.

Henry TOMS (also spelled THOMS) was born in 1819 in Dorset, England. He died in 1901 in Cardiff.

Sarah TOMS, wife of Henry, was born ca.1826 in England. She died April 1887 in Cardiff.

If anyone with access could have a look for these two it would be very much appreciated. Thanks for reading!

Raymond

Could Henry have been married twice?  Found a death for Eugene Toms in Twp. of Cardiff, but his mother is listed as Louisa Slade, born England, father Henry Toms, born England.

Hello Karen,

Firstly, thank you for the marriage registration for my gg grandparents - that was a nice surprise!

As far as Louisa Slade, that is the same Sarah Toms I was hoping for a death registration. I only knew her middle initial was 'L'. But Shara L Slade was the mother of Eugene. Nice to find out what that 'L' stood for!

Maybe her death is listed under Louisa TOMS then, instead of Sarah?

Many thanks, Karen...

Raymond

Karen,

Sorry, I made a mistake - I have "Sarah *H.* Slade" as wife of Henry and mother of Eugene. Now I am very confused!

Well there is a marriage of another daughter, Elizabeth Elmhurst who has Sarah Slade and Henry Toms as her parents.  Also Mary Ann Coxon.

Do you have their marriage information?

Still trying to find death for Sarah, she defiently died in 1887?

They also had a daughter named Sarah Louisa Toms, and it seems a good chance she was named after her mother then.

No, I do not have their marriage information. But I believe their first two children were born in the US (one in Michigan), so they were either married ca. 1849 in the US or perhaps even in England. I have no idea where Sarah (Louisa) came from in England though, and that is the biggest reason I'd like to find her death registration.

"Sarah Toms, wife of Henry, died April 12, 1887, age 65 years, 1 month." I am not sure if I got that from a newspaper clipping or a tombstone. However, could also be an error somewhere.
