1851 Census MARGARET ROBERTSON - Complete
« on: Wednesday 21 June 06 08:51 BST (UK) »
I'm looking for help with MARGARET ROBERTSON in the 1851 Census. She was born ca 1834 in New York NBL, in the 1841 Census she was with her parents in Earsdon NBL but in the 1851 Census her parents were in Craghead DUR. I suppose she could have been in service as the next "sighting" of her is her marriage to Jonas Dance in 1854 in County Durham.
Hope someone can help.
Derek ???

Hi Derek,

Are you sure that the Mary in the 1851 census isn't actually Margaret?  Having looked at the image it could be Mary or Marg, and the age/birthplace is the same? No Mary on the 1841 census?

Hi Barbara,
That's a really possibility as Mary doesn't appear again. In 1854 Margaret married Jonas Dance. He died then in 1867 she married THOMAS CUTHBERT. I've got her from 1871 on wards as Margaret Cuthbert.
My interest in Margaret is that she's the sister of my Great Grandmother and Thomas Cuthbert is the step brother of my GGreat Grandfather.
If it's possible could you see if you could find Jonas Dance in the 1861 Census, I think he'd be living in DUR.

Thank you for that Barbara, the two children appear in the 1871 as DANCE and the 1881 & 1891 Ann becomes Ann D Cuthbert.
Your help is much appreciated.

Sorry Derek, that address should read 10 Craghead (not Cragside), Butsfield, Lanchester, Durham!
Glad to help, Barbara
