I have written asking about records and been to the great war forum. With no results. >:(

How can i get information on their service history. ( i already know what medals they got) . I know there might not be any that has survived, but couldn't have they just replied? >:(

Hoping someone can help

The records are held at Kew, and if you can't get there yourself the only way is to pay a researcher to do it for you.  With the information you have it shouldn't be too difficult.  I found someone who was very capable and not expensive, and it was worth it.
Godden in East Sussex, mainly Hastings area.
Richards in Lea, Gloucestershire, then London.
Williamson in Leith, Vickers in Nottingham.
Webb in Bildeston and Colchester.
Wesbroom in Kirby le Soken.
Ellington in Harwich.
Park, Palmer, Segar and Peartree in Kersey.

I know that feeling Pauline!   It seems to me that getting any information about a soldier is like getting the proverbial blood from a stone!

Every trail you follow looks promising, everyone is helpful, everyone is sure they can offer something and in the end they all seem to tell you to go to Kew!   Easier said than done!

My soldier was in the Royal Engineers.   A couple of weeks ago I wrote to their museum and got an immediate reply.   "Yes, we are sure we can help you, please sign here and agree to pay" (not very much) - which I did.   Back came the next email, "please be patient, this is going to take 3 or 4 months"!   Arrrrgh!

Thankyou for the replies.

I cannot get to Kew, unfortunately. Looks like i will have to pay someone to get the info for me. Or bribe a family member into going!
Will try the latter one first.

Thankyou again for your help
