Germany, Cologne, Schneider
« on: Friday 30 June 06 16:02 BST (UK) »
I need help finding out anything at all about my husbands grandmother Hermine Anne Schneider as she would not talk about her life before coming to England, even to her children.

What we know is that she was born in Cologne about 1898.
It is believed that she lived on Madeira as a teenager and  met some one in the British army who brought her back to Shustoke House or Hall, Warwickshire, England to look after his children. There she met and married the chauffer, Sidney Arnold in1922.

Her fathers name may have been Herman.
Has anyone any suggestions on where I go from here??

Regards
Janet

Marriage reference:
Hermine A. J. Schneider, spouse's name Arnold, Meriden district volume 6d page 1133 Apr/May/Jun quarter 1922.   If you have the certificate look closely at their address and at the witnesses (might have been other people working in the same place).

The residents of Shustoke House were the family Tongue-Croxall in about 1912-1913 (although according to the divorce info from 1913 there were no children to this family), and in 1925 T.W. Hopwood and F.S. Hopwood were living there (they had a imitation jewellery business in Birmingham, and were being called up for Bankruptcy) - from The Times.
