1841 Census Lookup Request Please For Rossiters Of Holyhead
« on: Friday 07 July 06 07:27 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am looking for information please about any Rossiter individuals or families living in Holyhead at the time of the 1841 Census.

I am trying to track the parents of Mary Ann Rossiter who was born there circa 1818 but she moved to Bristol and was married there in the March quarter of 1841 which cuts off any chance of finding her with her parents. There may be a baptism record in Holyhead indicating who her parents were.

I know that her father was Charles born circa 1785 but have no knowledge of mother. I have no knowledge of siblings but there may be baptism records of brothers and sisters.

Any information would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

Best wishes

I just found this on the LDS site, using the Hugh Wallis page:

C 056232, Holyhead (1813-1859)

My Anne Rositer, christened 20th Sept 1817 Holyhead, Anglesey
Father: Chaz Rositer
Mother: Eliz.

she is the only Rossiter baptism on Anglesey, so if she did have any siblings, chances are, they weren't born on Anglesey, and the 41 census won't give you the info where they were born (either born in county or not)

Have you found Charles in 1851?

Bore da, D ap D,

Many thanks for that. I tried to find Charles on the LDS site but had no success. Finding him in the 1851 Census would be helpful aas it will show his birthplace. Are you able to search the 1851 Census please?

Best wishes

fraid not, my sub has run out. I'm still waiting for ancestry to complete the 1851 before I resubscribe.

If you post a request on the census request board, I'm sure someone will be able to help though.

Hi,

I checked out the 1841 for Holyhead, and although one or two "unusual" names practically jumped out of the page at me (Smith for example), I couldn't find a single Rossiter. Which got me thinking...

You said Mary Ann married in Bristol in the first quarter of 1841. Have you checked the Bristol census in case her parents are living there? Although not out of the question that she moved there on her own (maybe was "in service"?) chances are that the family moved there earlier.

I also checked the 1851 for Holyhead on the off chance, but there are no Rossiters on the island at all.

I reckon Bristol will be the next best place to check.

Hi D Ap D,

Thanks for that. Looks like Mary Ann's parents either died before 1841 or all three moved away from Anglesey possibly to Bristol. I'll check there. Thanks again for your help.

Best wishes
