Hi all,

Here is the original.

I have a photograph of his wife at the same sitting, her dress has possibly been dated around mid 1860's, this fits with info I have.

Thanks for any input

Cas

Just have to say....many, many thanks to Neil for the link, and all else who contributed  :)

I have had a reply from the museum and they actually hold his medals from both Sikh wars and also long and Good Conduct medals.  They have requested that I send a copy of the photo so that it can be displayed with them, I am soooo chuffed.

They have given me a very good overview of his 21yrs spent with the 29th. He was badly wounded in the first Sikh War and went on to fight in both major battles of the second.  He spent a total of 13yrs 9mths in the East Indies ( no wonder I could not find him in 1841/51)

Thanks again

Cas

Great stuff Cas, that's what I call a result!
So you have a trip to Worcester in the offing to see the medals?

Just out of curiosity, did they say which battle he was wounded at?

Hello all,

Just wanted to share this with Neil, and all you good people who contributed to help me find the information.

Have received the original discharge papers in 1861 of my GG grandfather, with his signature, and also had a photograph of his medals which are now displayed with his restored photograph (thanks to the rootschatters) at Worcestershire Regiment Museum.

Thanks for sharing Cas!  ;D ;D

You know, I think he must have worn his medals several times. Looking at the photo, especially the medal on either end, do you see the odd little nick and dent around the medal rim? Hard to be absolutely sure from a photo, but those look like contact marks.
When medals are worn on the chest, they tend to jangle against each other. Eventually, if this continues, this jangling leads to wear and tear (ie these contact marks).

A lovely photo to keep though. Must be nice to know the medals are looked after somewhere appropriate.
