My female ancestors certainly had to work, and the children too.

I have dressmakers, bootbinders and washerwomen amongst mine who were in London and the countrywomen helped out in the fields when they weren't being char women or servants.  These were women with six or more children.

Mine alone include Johnny Walker (Whiskey fame), Robbie Burns (hard as I don't think he had any children)

Carol

Hi Carol,

Actually Robbie Burns did have children, abt 12  ;D - most were illegitimate - and he was married, twice (I think??) Check the Burness family tree - all the lovely details are there - my lot are there as well - so maybe one of my "family stories" was actually true - surprise, surprise.  ::)

Facts, Fantasy & Fiction in Wonderland

hi all,
whilst doing family research i have confirmed and refuted some old family stories. Just wondered if anyone else has done this, if so , are they stories you are proud of? or wish to hide.
STEVE

All stories are good be they fact, fantasy or fiction. Some family history stories are true and some are false,  all we can hope to do is read them and enjoy.

At best, we can write our own stories, and hope we have the correct facts.  In some stories, it is okay to add background information with some speculation and assumptions.

The ancestors lived here and there, in many scattered
places, with various occupations

Granny told me when I was about 8 years old when she took me to the museum to see Stephensons Rocket, that Grandad was a descendant of Robert Stephenson ... I ignored it !

Now, 50+ years later, and into family history, and venturing into Grandad's branch of the family, I've just discovered that his mother was from Stockton ... I wonder ??

Howdy Folks,
well I'd love to be able to say I have found David but not so at the moment. The only way I am going to find him is by working backwards from my mums birth and ordering every cert for a David Wilson, mothers name Ethel Wilson. I reckon I'm gonna have more luck finding the Parrot
