Wornhams/Warnhams of Brighton
« on: Tuesday 18 July 06 07:46 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find out what happened to the children of Charles Wornham and Catherine Nye.  Charles and Catherine were married in 1865 and had at least 11 children including Rose Eliza Wornham b. 1865 Brighton,  Elvira Miriam Wornham b. 1866 Brighton, Catherine Wornham b. 1868 Brighton, Maud Mary b. 1871 Brighton, Lillian Wornham b. 1873 Brighton, Anne Ada Wornham b. 1874 Brighton, Alice Wornham b. 1877 Brighton, Caroline Wornham b. 1878 Brighton, Frank Wilfred Wornham b. 1881 Brighton (he moved to Australia in early 1900's), Mabel Wornham b. 1886 Brighton and William Richard Wornham b. 1893 Brighton.  I know much of Frank Wilfred's life but little or nothing of the others.  Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Hello audrey69, when you say 'you want to know what happended to them' what exactly do you need to know?  Looking for information after 1901 isn't easy.
Do you have any or all family members through the various census? Here is a start..

For instance in 1901 at Cuthbert Road Brighton
RG13/926  Folio 147  page 5
are

Maud Wornham head 29 Charwoman
Caroline sister 22 Dressmaker, works on own account at home
Mabel sister 15
William brother 7
all born Brighton

The sort of information I was hoping for was a marriage and/or death for these children.  I was really hoping I might just connect with someone already researching the name and who may already have that information.  Thank you for the information you have included.

Cheers

I would be really interested to know when Caroline wornham was born in 1878, as I was born in 1978 and named Caroline Wornham, freaky coincedence? (I also spend time curtain making at times).

Have to watch what I say because what you want goes into present times.
Suggest you do several things.
[1] Get onto Genes Reunited and look up Brighton Wornhams, Warnhams & Wernhams 1850 to the present  (there are over 100 possible leads)
[2] Get onto FreeBMD on the Internet to see all the Brighton & Steyning births, Marriages & Deaths, in those names, especially those after 1911 which also give you the mother's maiden name.
[3] Access the Sussex Family History Group Members interests website, to see if there are others who share your interest.
[4] CWGC on the Internet should tell you if any died in WW1 or WW2
Should keep you busy.

Hi there, I just came acrosss this post. My great grandfather is Frank Wilfred Wornham. He married Gladys and had a couple of kids. He joined the AIF in 1915 and was discharged due to severe varicose veins and he spent many years in and out of prison for thieving. Not a very thief I guess as he was regularly caught. He left his wife and children destitute and his ex wife gave the children up to foster care.
