"Sticky Topic"

I'm sorry, but I don't know where to post this question really.
What is Sticky Topic? I've tried searching for the legend to the keys for a definition -
by someone's message or topic there is a folder with what looks like a red pen or pencil
on it? Poll I understand and the padlocked folder - meaning it is a closed subject; but if
someone could give me the answer about "Sticky", I'd be appreciative.

Hi Kate

Like you say, if you look at the messages at the top of this board, you will see those at the top are marked with a "red pen" type symbol to the left ..............

This means that they have been "stickied" by a moderator so that they remain at/jump to the top of the board where they are found more easily/noticed more often.

Doesn`t really makeit clear to me .I thought was reference topotentially disruptive and/or sensitive topics

Hi Mawaltho,

The topics are listed in chronological order, with those with the newest  reply first.  Older topics, or topics that don't get replies,  "slide" down the list until they disappear from sight (on to the next page).

As some topics have important, general information, they are "stickied", so that they always stay at the top of the board, and are always visible.

I thought was reference to potentially disruptive and/or sensitive topics

maybe you are thinking of the Quarantine board here ?

apologize for all the fuss BUT I am Canadian and have always thought that except when applies to toffee or puddung the word "sticky" carried negative connotations as in ..very bad taste, unpleasant, disorderly as in "he`ll come t a sticky end , that one" certainly I would never have used it to mean  "important, or necessary to be aware of" English is a great language but only its roots are universal   Thanks

Think of it as "sticky" in the sense of

"Because it's important, I'll stick it to the top of the pole/pile)"
