Wait a sec, Who am I looking for?
« on: Friday 29 October 04 01:54 BST (UK) »
Has this ever happened to you?  You start a session at the putter searching for a certain Surname.  One site leads you to another which leads you to another etc. until you suddenly realize you Forgot what name you are looking for tonite.  At that point I just start using my "Edit" and type in all the names I can remember in family and finally one pops up at whatever site I am on and then I realize That's who I started out looking for tonite.  In the process I Have found info on family members I wasn't looking for right at that moment so it all works out.  (Usually).

Hi Leagen,

There should be a name for it,  I do it so often.   ;D

A couple of days ago I did just that,  and ended up finding a marriage record I had not set out to search for.

O.K., so let's come up w/a name for this syndrome.     The "Who?" syndrome, the "Where was I?" syndrome.  A nice new topic here.

I get carried away on the 1881 census. I start by just checking out the people next door and before I know it I have gone down the street and around the corner and ever onwards.

One night I was checking Cheadle, Cheshire, and came across such weird households I couldn't stop. I think I went into every house in town and quite forgot what I was looking for in the first place.

With me it has to be "Nosey Parker' syndrome.

Darcy,

I have done that too on the 1881.  ::)

It is fascinating though when you find a relative to see who they lived next door to,  and in one case I had one who married the girl next door.

I have been known to visit whole streets in one sitting,  finding nothing useful to my research,  but being engrossed all the same.  ;D
