Baptists in Winterslow, Idmiston, Porton
« on: Saturday 22 July 06 00:35 BST (UK) »
I have recently discovered that there have been up to 9 churches of various persuasions in Idmiston, and I am pondering whether herein lies an explanation for the disappearance of a generation of my family.

The most likely church to be involved is the baptists.   My timeframe of interest is about 1650 - 1720.   At this time the local baptist movement was centered on Porton before moving to Broughton.   I have some name changes and adult baptisms which could be explained by family members returning from the baptist church to C of E.

I would be very grateful for information on the records for the baptist church in Porton.   My specific interest is in the names of Shears, Sheath and Holloway. but any information on the church and where the records are housed would be most helpful.

Many thanks

Colin
