Nellie REYNOLDS marriage to Joseph JOWETT
« on: Monday 24 July 06 05:11 BST (UK) »
I have been searching for Nellie Reynold's marriage for a long time and now believe she was married in Ontario - the marriage county is Hastings.
Her spouse was Joseph Jowett and her father Edward Reynolds.
Nellie was born 1889 in London - her father was David Sealey who died when she was 2 and her mother remarried Edward in 1895 in London. On the 1901 census Nellie is shown as Reynolds.
I do not know if she travelled to Canada with the rest of the family and would be grateful for any information at all but particularly the marriage.
Thank you.........

Not sure if you have this, but Nellie and Joseph are buried in Lakeview Cemetery in Madoc, Hastings County.

Hello Karen

Thank you for all the wonderful information you have given me. I'm thrilled.
It seems very strange that there are no details given on Nellie's mother Harriet. Afer she and Edward married they had twin boys in 1896 and a daughter in 1897.
They were Edward, Walter and Edith.

At first reading it does not seem that the Nellie who arrived through Barnados is the correct one - too young.
I am sending you a p.m. with my e-mail address - I really appreciate your help Karen...........

Dear Karen - I have been studying all you sent me and now have a little niggling doubt as to whether this is indeed my Nellie.
The marriage details and also the details on the Barnardo's child would indicate that this is the same person.
My Nellie was born in 1889 and so even though it shows her father as Edward Reynolds  ???  ???
I really thought I had made the break-through ( with your help) and would still like to see the copy of the wedding certificate.
Appreciation..........

Hi Emmeline

Did you have suspicion that she came to Canada?

Perhaps finding the death information on this Nellie married to Joseph might have a clue if she is yours.

You would think though that she would put David as her father?

hmmm, gonna have to think about this one a little more.

Karen

Hi Karen - Thanks for your interest.

Yes, I have been down that Sealey road without success.
Then I thought she might have decided to call herself Helen or Eleanor for some reason but nothing there either.
When I saw in the 1901 census that she was now called Nellie Reynolds I presumed she had been adopted by Edward ( did they do that in those days?) or they preferred for her to be known by that name.

Would you have expected her to still use the Sealey name on her marriage certificate?  Perhaps not as she was very small when he died.  Would be pleased to have your suggestions......

Finding something that seemed to match at last I was hopeful it was her !

With kind regards.....
