Hi Carol,

I did not find a marriage record for Hugh and Christina, but I do see records for a lot (if not all) of their children.  It seems they also lived for a time in Stanley Township, Huron.  I wasn't sure if you had this info already, so here are the records I can see - let me know if you would like the full info on any of them:

Jennie b. 1864 Stanley m. 1884
John b. 1865 Stanley m. 1895
Janet b. 1868 Stanley m. 1892
Mary b. 1871 Stephen m. 1898
Annie Elizabeth b. 1873 Stanley m. 1901
Christena b. 1875 Stephen m. 1901
Thomas b. 1877 Stephen m. 1905
Isabella b. 1884 Stephen m. 1904

And it seems that Hugh was a Justice of some sort - check out this site:

http://homepages.rootsweb.com/~maryc/convicti.htm

And I see birth registrations for Isabella, Margaret, and Elizabeth Ann; and a later child, James (1887).

Also death regs for Christina in 1910, and Hugh in 1900.

Widowed Christina and family appear in the 1901 census in Stephen Twp, but it seems to now be part of Middlesex Co. (http://automatedgenealogy.com).  She now has another child - Alexander b. 1889.

The Loves are mentioned several times in this histroy of Stephen Township:  http://www.ourroots.ca/e/toc.aspx?id=4359  (including a photo of son Thomas and his wife, and the Love family farm).

Sorry if you know all of this already!  Just let me know if you would like details on any of these BMD entries...

I did not have any info on this family apart from the marriage and 1881 Census.
I found them by accident. Was trying to find Hugh's fathers name to see if they belong to hubby's Mum. Now i am interested. Would Hugh's Death have his parents Names?

Hi Carol,

Ontario death registrations of this period unfortunately do not include parents names.  But this record shows his residence as Lot 11 Con 20, which matches the info in the History of Stephen Township book, so we know this is the right one.  (There is another Hugh Love of similar age, also born in Scotland, living in Huron Co. at the same time, married to Johanna Young, with several children.)

Registration #: 012821-00 (Huron Co.)
Township of Stephen
Name: Hugh Love
Date of Death: Oct. 4, 1900
Age: 70 years
Residence: Lot 11, Concession 20
Marital Status: Married
Occupation: Farmer
Birthplace: Scotland
Cause of death: Heart failure - 8 days
Name of Physician: Dr. Caw
Religious Denomination: Presbyterian
Name of person making return: Dr. Caw
Date of return: Oct. 5, 1900

Even if we did find a marriage for Hugh and Christina, it would not likely show their parents names.  1860 is before civil registration began.  There are some books available where misc. records (e.g. lists kept by local priests) have been combined by area to create quasi-BMD registers, but they do not show parents names.

What is the name you are looking for and the possible connection?  Maybe we can find reference to them in another way...  Is it possible that Hugh and Christina married in Scotland?

Hi MJP. Thank you. Hugh's father could be Hugh, James, Allen, Robert or John.
His first son was Robert, then John and Thomas. The record i found Say's born in Beith Scotland which is where all my love's come from.
According to the book you found Hugh brought the land in 1849 and was living in Hillsgreen, Stanley before moving on to the land in 1864. My guess is he married in Canada.
