Hello again, I have just found a record of the marriage! I looked under Reginald V Fearnhead. It was in Wiltshire 1921.

My interest is an Ann Shergold born 1870 at South Newton,daughter of shepherd Frederick c1843 Great Wishford, and Eliza b circa 1846 S. Newton.
Ann married Walter Mark Chalke, haulier b Downton 1872 -1960.

Difficult to be accurate on John Shergold re Rokes Drift Natal January 1879.
The only one that fits maybe possible,as follows.....ref FMPast.

John Shergold,
 invalid,discharged  Infantry Brigade Depot 25th,         6th April 1880 Netley.
served 21 years 34 days.

Thank you, I know he was discharged due to ill health! If it helps his regiment was the 24th foot.

FindMyPast have a John Shergold Army records.This is possibly your guy.
John Shergold, army number,914.
He attested age 18 years 3 months,at Coventry Warwicks 1st March 1859,discharged Netley 21 Nov 1879 age 39,5 months,[difficult to read]Medical discharge,in poor condition.Served overseas,Mauritius,Rangoon,various infections listed,,,,,,including cholera.

South Wales Borderers 24th Foot.Second Battn.
Trade,Labourer.born St Georges London.
5 feet 5/three qtr.Lt brown hair,eyes hazel.
Intended address on leaving,,,43,East Rd, Clapham.

You may be able to trace him onwards using this address via the census,ie 1881,1891.
Also may now be able to find his birth,leading to his parents.
