Dean/Pollitt
« on: Sunday 31 October 04 13:04 GMT (UK) »
My g grandfather married Hannah Pollitt at All Saints Newton Heath Manchester 30th Aug 1886. According to the marr cert Hannah was 18 and her father John Pollitt. I have found the family on the 1881 census at Guido St Failsworth, which is correct because my grandad remembered the family having lived there. On the1871 census the family were at Dob Lane Failsworth. Hannah,s mother on the census is named as Martha. The only birth cert I have found for Hannah has the father named as Benjamin and mother Esther,so obviously incorrect. I haven't manged to find a marriage cert for John and Martha either. I have looked on a Pollitt website but no joy there. Any help much appreciated. ???

Hi Linda,

not sure if this helps, but I have tons of Pollitts on a database as I am related to them also.  Here is John and Martha that I had from 1861 in case you have not already got them.  It is the same as yours.  I note in 1871 that Saml Chrisr is not in the family, so probably deceased - also that in 1871 there is a John William James (?) who does not appear on 1861! Odd!

Reference for 1861 is 2973, 15, 23

Failsworth  cob? Lane?
john                        Head    M      26        railway labourer lancs failsworth
martha                    Wife     M      29        cotton factory hand lancs M/c
saml chrisr   Son                2        lancs failsworth
eliza                         Dau               1   lancs failsworth

Must have married probably aound 1858/59.  There are two references on free bmd for Manchester:  June 1859 8d 377 and December 1859 8d 492.  There is a John marrying in Stockport for September 1859 8a, 79, as well.  Unfortunately, the link to the volume and page on free bmd is not working so cannot check the marriage partners of these Johns.  Could not find any births for Hannah in period 1867 to 1870.

Good luck
