Canadian births - 1860s
« on: Sunday 06 August 06 01:30 BST (UK) »
Can some kind soul please look up the births of the following for me? According to the census, they were born in the Toronto/Niagara area. Their father was in the British Army, stationed in Canada from 1959 until at least 1864.

Children of Samuel and Margaret PURDY:

John (born 1859)
James (1861)
Samuel G (1864)

Thank you.

Regards, Bill

Hi Bill,

Ontario birth registrations did not start until 1869, so the birth registrations you are looking for a too early.

Karen
Gandley (but known as Stanley in Canada)- Ireland to Birmingham
Ball, Kempson & Franklin - Birmingham
Shorter - Surrey
Dyer - Devon
Dawkins - Co. Cork, Ireland
Heffernan - Ireland
Huck - Alsace, France
Reinhart - Baden, Germany
Bowman & Ellis - England
Etheridge - Gloucestershire

Who all came to Canada in a little row boat, clap clap, clap your hands!!

Thanks Karen

I guess there would be several possibilities for where they might have been baptised - probably the army chaplain would have performed the ceremony.
