I hope this letter doesnt come through twice I cannot see it  so will post again

WOW !!!!!!! THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR QUICK RESPONSE

A Big Thanks everyone for being such a help.

Tati you asked at what point my tree started. I have had to delete everything backwards from William James Collins. I had his parents wrong so have had to start again that way. I am right into the future as long as I have the wife of William James Collins as Jane Elizabeth Baker.
I would appreciate if someone could check this for me please.
But going backwards all I had was the census and Williams parents names.

But thanks to everyone I have much more now.
How do you possibly work out the BDM's  of Robert when he has so many different birth places?????
Thanks so much again,
Mariac

This one ?

Seems to be at the right 'end' of Kent - but the only way to tell is to obtain the Cert and check if William's dad is Robert ... you can make this a 'condition of order' when you use the GRO online ordering - it costs £7.00, but you get £4.00 back if the father doesnt match your spec.  http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/

Marriages Dec 1900
Baker  Jane Elizabeth    Eastry  2a 2081
Collins  William James      Eastry  2a 2081
Sayer  Ernest Francis     Eastry  2a 2081
White  Frances Ellen     Eastry  2a 2081

actually, this should help to find him in 1901 ...

sadly not - neither of 'em - is there a military history ?

Wouldn't the safest way to proceed actually be to order the birth cert for one of William J's children?

If you are certain that the William J COLLINS/Jane E BAKER marriage is the correct one then can confirm that they did marry each other - at St Leonard in Deal (at least I think that is the church for ref. D/16) http://extranet3.kent.gov.uk/sp/rois/marriagesearch.cfm

And that might explain why they can't be found in 1901 - the census returns for Deal in that year are missing :(

Hi Everyone,
I have just recently got the Death certificate of William James Collins. Which is why I know I had the wrong parents. I now realize I should have had the certificate first. You live and learn.

It states his parents were Robert Edwin Collins and Harriet Port.
Previous to this I was going on family info that William was born in Deal. Not the case as it turns out. William's wife was Jane Elizabeth Baker. William and Jane and 6 children came to Australia in 1911.
My husbands father was one of those children.
Cassalguidi and Bill have previously given me help on the Baker side which has been such a great help.
Thanks everyone for your help
Mariac.

Hi Mariac

Assuming that Robert Edwin COLLINS and Harriett PORT married in the same area of East Kent in which they lived, you should be able to find their marriage ref. on the Kent Registration Services site (I say should because there are sporadic omissions in the index) http://extranet3.kent.gov.uk/sp/rois/marriagesearch.cfm

Hi Casalguidi,
Have just tried the site you suggested. Can get both names but none to coincide for the same year. As you say there are some missing.. But it was worth a try.
Thanks

1864 Robert COLLINS/Harriett PORT :)

I think the ref. T/41 refers to marriages in Woodnesborough
