Staffs GRO alternatives
« on: Monday 01 November 04 13:35 GMT (UK) »
Please can someone give me some pointers:
My great grandmother was listed in the 1891 and 1901 Census, each time living with her father and mother, making her born in 1882 in Hanley named Mary Ann Brook - the dates also match her age at date of death so there doesnt seem to be any error there.

However, Ive scanned 1837online till my eyes have gone funny and cannot find any Mary Ann Brook born in 1882 in Hanley or even Staffs. Ive got them to do me a search cover 1881 and 1883 as well to no avail.

Can anyone recommend somewhere else in Staffs that would list births for 1882?  All help gratefully received.

Many thanks

Would she have been the first-born?. And have you her parents together in 1881?

Hi deany

There is this site:
http://www.staffordshirebmd.org.uk/

but having had a quick scout around, the births for the Hanley district have not been put online yet.  But you could try the Register Office there to see if they can find one for you. Their contact details are:
Town Hall, Hanley, Stoke on Trent, ST1 1QQ.
Tel: 01782 235260.

Good luck

Nell
