Hi,

I was wondering if there's any way of finding information about those who served in the Free French Air Force during World War 2.

We know the following:

Name: Francois J. DUMONT
Radio Operator on B17 Flying Fortress (this may be incorrect, it's from a school note-book from about 12 years ago) But he almost certainly flew in some kind of bomber.

Anyone have any ideas or places we can look?

Blackbushe aerodrome is still there - Dan Air used it until they moved to Lasham - now its just small stuff, but quite active.

Try GOOGLE ?

Hi all, just had a quick look in various books- The "Official history" of the RAF, 1954, gives 342 Squadron operating Douglas Boston twin engined bombers over the D-Day landings in June 1944, in No 137 Wing of 2 Group.
The "Action Stations" series of books are very useful for finding out which squadrons were at which airfields and the dates. My vol. only covers the West country but I think vol.9 covers everything in the South East. (by Chris Ashworth, PSL 1983 but revised since)

Afraid this is not him! He's from the Toulouse region of France.

His parents were Sylvaine DUMONT and Angele CREST. As I said, he's from Toulouse. He married an English girl (My partner's Grandma) and came to live in London where they had seven (I think) children.

I'll check out those sites too, thanks!

There is a book called 'Hampshire Airfields in the Second World War' by Robin J Brooks which has quite a lot of information about the squadrons based at Blackbushe

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/1853064149/202-0479738-6109418?v=glance&n=266239&s=gateway&v=glance

There is a fair bit of information about the Free French in there.
