This one I have no birth year or birth place of Amelia.

2) George Curtis married an Amelia EDE in 1834.

Art

Art, you might have unlocked this Amelia/Best/Ede project I've set myself (fool that I am  :P)

Amelia Ede married George Curtis, botp, by licence, 27/9/1834, Dorking.

1841 - N.E side of High Street, Dorking  HO107/1081/6/17/26

George Curtis  30  Surgeon.
Amelia Curtis    30
George               3
Amelia                1

All born Surrey.

Amelia dies & is buried 1846, Dorking age 35 which gives us a dob of 1811.  If she is the one I am looking for connected to the Best's (more on that later when I've figured everything out) she is the daughter of Thomas Ede who was deceased before 1826 or 1834, the document I have is not clear when it's written.

Amelia EDE born Surrey about 1811, father, Thomas EDE.

Checked the following for Amelia's baptism;
IGI - none
Abinger, Wotton & Oakwood - none
Alfold - none
Capel - none
Newdigate - none
Dorking - none

So come to a grinding halt on that one :(

Thanks for this information. Do we have George and the children in 1851 census to see if his birth place gives any indicators.? I have three additional children Mary b 1841, John ADEE Curtis b 1843 and Alice Curtis b 1845 ( maybe Amelia died as a result of this birth?)

John Adee would be EDEE or EDEY and the use of Alice may indication Amelia is a descendant of the couple Alice IRELAND and John EDE.. a possible granddaughter

Henry EDE and Elizabeth SWAN from the West Chapel dynasty had a son Thomas
So did James EDE and Ann Longhurst

My line had a Thomas who married Ann King and a possible link to Mary BEST.

From the children of John EDE and Alice Ireland were has John EDE who married Ann Reynolds ......No Thomas but perhaps one born elsewhere.

James who marries Ann Longhurst

Alice who marries William King

and Richard EDE who marries Mary KING. To date no offspring for this marriage in 1782

George remarries possibly Ann Bothwell Mar. 1849, Dorking.

1851 finds then in High St. Dorking.  George is born Dorking.
John Adee is found at 48 Baker St. St. Marylebone with his uncle, Frederick Curtis a widower age 38 a Pharmacutical chemist, wholesale druggist.

1851 finds two daughters with their grandfather in Dorking.
John ADEE CURTIS  wid.  77  Surgeon  b. London
Eliza Curtis  dau  unm.  48                    b. Dorking
AMELIA CURTIS  11  g/dau                         ditto
Mary Curtis          9  ditto                           ditto

So that's where the ADEE comes from!

Amelia Ede (1811) could well be a descendant of John & Alice.  Need to keep digging

Hi Jane.

I was surprised to see your reply in light of the big day tomorrow. Thank you so much for the census information and for your analysis of my comments and suggestions. Very interesting the Adee name and one I shall keep in mind as perhaps the Curtis is linked further back with the EDE's. LDS throws up ADDIS in some cases but ADEE could be a bastardisation of EDE. I mentioned earlier that there are AEDE burials in the Nat Burial Index for Surrey.

I look forward to continuing on Tuesday. Happpy hunting.

Very Best Regards
