Stanley Williams to Aus 1914-1918

Stanley Williams

Born : O/N/D 1896 : Pontypool
Vol 11a : Page 148

Looking for Descendants of Stanley Williams. Here is what I know.............

Stanley Williams was born in Llanhilleth. Monmouthshire, Wales.

Father - Charles Adrian Williams - born 1860 : Linton, Herefordshire

Mother - Fanny Williams (her maiden name as well !!) - born 1861/2 : Lydbrook, Gloucestershire

Stanley Williams had 8 brothers :- Edgar, Reuben, Evan, Harry, George, Albert, Ron and Len

And 5 sisters :- Maud, Mabel, Harriet, Nell and Lena

Family history...............from his sister Lena (20+ years ago), was that Stanley was in WW1, came back home to Wales on leave and his father was so shocked by what he saw with all the lice (or heard about the trenches) burnt his uniform and sent Stanley off to Australia.

I believe that Stanley Williams might well have married someone called Christine.

Is there anyone out there who has more information ? Sorry, but no idea exactly where in Australia he went. Any information would be great - and if anyone can spare a few minutes and do a check on his details with any Australian sites, that would be absolutely super - and VERY much appreciated.

I've always wondered what happened to Stanley Williams.

I'm the youngest daughter Lena's Grandson.

Thank you

Could anyone offer any suggestions as to where would be the best place for me to start trying to look ?

I've posted this Thread up on Genes Reunited as well.

Is there a good Australian site that is popular with Family Historians ?

Many thanks

At the top of the page on Emigrants to Australia board there are links for each state which are very helpful for finding family.  NSW bdm's are the only state that have online searching for the time period you are looking for.

www.bdm.nsw.gov.au

There are quite a few with the name Stanley Williams so do you know if he had a second name which would help to narrow it down.

If you could find his marriage and the state,  this would be a good place to start.

His immigration record would be held at

www.naa.gov.au

but you would need more information to make an enquiry.

As you belong to GR if you click on Records Office on the home page and have a look there you will find some people from Oz offering lookups.

Thank you Cazay for your post.

I only know what I posted up - no idea if he had a 2nd name. I guess really a Birth Cert would be a good idea.........but he's not a direct Ancestor. Hmmm.......only £7.

Will look for marriage details etc etc

Yes, member of GR - posted up a 'please help' already.

Thank you for your time and advice.

MUCH appreciated.

If you have not already done this, a search for the army record you refer to in his English life might yield something.
just a couple more details like ,as suggested, middle-name.
I am not very familiar with UK seaarching, but there seem to be wiwlling helpers on the Military section of ROOtS C.

Hi,

Came across your old post while helping a member of our local FHG research her family. Stanley was her grandfather, here in NSW Australia. If you get this I can fill you in on some details, as well as a mystery at this end.
