I wasnt confused thanks Gordon - can count in binary too  ;D - I guess I didnt use the word SETS or COUPLES in my short note.

I also thought that Sandy meant to add the G*2's to the G*3s - 8+16 SETS = 24 !

40-30 I feel  ;D

Going for Deuce ?

PS. I've only been here 2 months, so wasnt aware of previous thread  :D

We've been discussing the generation thing over tea and we were wondering when family trees become superfluous  ???(Is that the right word?)
If your ancestors double every 30 years, in effect, you soon clock up some huge numbers of people- 210 years ago, you had 128 ancestors in that "breeding generation "300 years ago it was 1024. If you carried on you would reach a point about 700 years ago when you would have more ancestors than the population of the country (if it weren't for inbreeding).
So are we all related to Chaucer, or is there a big flaw in this line of thinking?
Fred ???

Scroppers your counting makes perfect sense now that know it was sets not individuals!!

Anyway not got all 16 sets (got 15)  from the 3*g generation due to illegitimacy. Also in one of the sets in this generation the husband may not be the father of my gg grandfather

Paternal side:

Robert Douglas and Jane Telford (m Carlisle 1824)
William Donaldson and Rebecca Jardine (m 1845 St Mungo Dumfriesshire )
William Black and Isabella Wright (m 1847 Dalziel, Lanarkshire)
John Faulds and Isabella Lindsay (m 1847 Dalziel, Lanarkshire)
Andrew Townsley and Mary Docherty (m 1856 Antrim)
Terrence Cunningham and Mary Campbell (m 1854 Glasgow)
Thomas Davidson and Ann Killalely/Killala/Killale (m 1863 Auchlenck Ayrshire)
John Campbell and Susan McLuskie (not got marriage date before 1855 and RC so not in OPRs)

Maternal side:

James Gray and Catherine Pettigrew (married 1845 Cambusnethan, Lanarkshire)
Archibald Richardson and Elizabeth Pitcairn (married 1841 Old Monkland, Lanarkshire)
John Craig and Jean Campbell (married 1866 Glasgow)
John Campbell and Agnes Cowan (married 1883 New Monkland, Lanarkshire)
John Tripney and Georgina Corbett (married 1873 Falkirk)
James Thomson and Christina Thomson (married 1876 New Monkland) (no obvious family relationship found betwen these Thomsons!)
Margaret Muir and Francis Lauchlan (married 1870 New Monkland but was Francis the father of William?)

Gordon

Update: Got new info thanks to Rootschat!!!! John Campbell who married Susan McLuskie was actually John Campbell McIlhern(or similar sounding spellings). Knew he was from Armagh already but it seems that over the years he dropped the McIlhern surname over his years in Scotland and used his middle name Campbell as a surname. So now know the marriage was in 1854 and now got his daughter Rose(my great great grandmothers) birth entry which I couldn't find before. All thanks to MonicaLesl who discovered the other surname for me ;D

Hi Scoppers

Only joined the other thread myself yesterday ;D started this one to see how many we could note.

2 months and a over 1,000 posts.  ;D I have been here just over a  year and only
clocked up 2,000 +  ;D but then I mainly stay on a couple of forums that's enough for me.  ;D

Hubby says we ususally count in the power of ten and with our rellies we count in the power of two.

Glad he knows what he is talking about.  ;D  ;D  ;D (only joking)

Obviously the younger you are means you would be travelling a lot quicker
down them than alot of us.  ;D

Cheers Sandy
