MITCHELL/JOHNSTON(E)...probably Lanarkshire
« on: Tuesday 02 November 04 13:20 GMT (UK) »
Hello  :)

On a death register for a Sarah Henderson (nee Mitchell), wife of David Henderson,  in Bellshill, Lanarkshire 1897, her parents are shown as:

Robert Mitchell, Coalminer (Deceased)

and

Rachael Mitchell (nee Johnstone) (Deceased)

Would like to trace any info on either, but in particular Robert, but do not know where they came from or lived.

If anyone has/does ever come across these names with a daughter Sarah, it would be great if you could post here.

PS  Sarah died a few days after giving birth to her daughter Margaret, Margaret in turn died 40 years later a few weeks after giving birth to her youngest son. I am interested to find out if Rachael also died after childbirth.

Thanks for looking, ever in hope  :)!

  ;D.....a great, big THANK YOU!
Well done, this looks to be the very family.  I had wondered if Robert may have been born in Ireland and this would seem to confirm it. I think the 'Ballymonet' may actually be 'Ballymoney' and as I happen to know from one of my other lines,  the council in that area have a fantastic online genealogy site so I will try to further my research there.

Only late yesterday, I had contact from someone else (in Switzerland, I think) researching this same line and was given a birth date for Sarah of 4/2/1863...exactly as you have found. I know from my own findings that Sarah's marriage in 1886 shows her as a Domestic Servant, so this also ties in with your 1881 findings and it is probably the same Sarah.

You really have been very kind in finding all this additional info for me, I thought I had checked this one myself on the IGI but without success......either I had missed them, or, as I am doing a few 'lines' at the moment, I hadn't actually looked at all.

A fresh pair of eyes on a matter can often work wonders....as I have offered before, I will again, please do contact me if you need 'fresh eyes' for any of your brick walls.
