Need Help: John H. Robinson, Canada
« on: Monday 21 August 06 02:49 BST (UK) »
Need all info on JOHN HERBERT ROBINSON born 1885 England.
He married Jane (Jenny) Davison on June 16, 1914 in Hillcrest, Alberta. They had 2 girls; Elizabeth b. 1915 and Isabell b. 1917 Hillcrest. Believe John was a miner. John died about 1932 Drumheller area maybe Midland.

Is there a list with miners names that lived in Alberta?

Hello Aley

Hello Aley

Also found a marriage of Elizabeth Robinson:

Date of Marriage: 23 Mar 1939
Place of Marriage: Calgary, AB
Drumheller Mail issue: 06 Apr 1939

This is the website I used to find the death of John and a marriage of Elizabeth:

You may find others of your Robinsons. I leave it with you.

Cheers,

Thanks Linda

I'll check the links you gave me.
The obit of John Herbert Robinson sound like he could be the right one. Was told he died before Elizabeth's marriage.
His daughter, Elizabeth Jane Robinson married William Simpson. I have the marriage date as: Dec. 5, 1932.

Your welcome Aley

Looks like Elizabeth and William may have lived in Red Deer and named a daughter possibly after the province. From the Drumheller Mail Obits May 28, 2003:

Simpson: Alberta Jane 1941 - 2003
Miss Alberta Jane Simpson was born in Drumheller on January 28, 1941.  Jane lived in Red Deer most of her life, ...  predeceased by father William Simpson, mother Elizabeth Simpson, ...

Thanks again Linda

Forgot to mention, John Herbert Robinson is my great grandfather. Beside my dad there is only two Uncles & one Aunt left in the family. They all know nothing of John just he was a miner at one time in Alberta.
Alberta Jane Simpson was named after her grandmothers. William & Elizabeth had nine children. It looks like most of the children were named after family members.

Here he is, my great grandfather.

Found this in the Drumheller Review Newspaper.

Nov. 3, 1932

JOHN HERBERT ROBINSON, Died Suddenly at his home, Monday morning. Age 47,
fire boss at the Western Gem Coal Mine Ltd.
It said his home was in Newcastle. Also he had been a resident of Canada for the past 30 years, coming to Drumheller some 3 years ago.
And he had two daughters, one kept house for him and the other in Calgary.

Cards of Thanks was written by his daughter,  Miss E. J. Robinson.

This is where I found the newspaper. Worth a look.

So, John Robinson came to Canada in 1902 age 17.

Hi, aley...
Just want to mention that if he mined around Drumheller it was an exciting
place to work, as that is how the initial dinosaurs were found, by coal miners...

Must see if we can move you from the resources board and onto the main board...

I think you also have another thread on this same topic?  J.J.

Found a John H. on the 1911 in B.C.  altho not a miner...
