describing your loved lost ones
« on: Thursday 24 August 06 19:51 BST (UK) »
I thought about this whilst reading another thread about  'writing your own memoirs.'

If I wrote mine I would be far more windswept and interesting than I actually am, far prettier too.

So, has anyone written, in their family history books, about the personalities of their own lost loved ones and were you truthfull?

I wouldn't be able to help myself - I would just have to embellish a little bit.

Uncle Bertie, he liked a drink and was the life and soul of the party - when in reality Uncle Bertie was a alcoholic.

Grt Uncle John was a real comedian - when in reality not a soul ever laughed at his jokes.

I just couldn't be truthfull about the people I have loved - I'm not sure I could include the flaws in their personalities.

My family history book will be a total work of fiction  ::)  ??? ::)

I know what you mean but its their flaws that make them who they are! I think I would try to include a mix of good and bad to give them a rounded character.

I had to give an eulogy at a funeral for a... difficult... relative.

I said that she was a "memorable" character of whom "we all had so many stories". "Who could not forget her home and her pets which she loved" (her dirty flat with two terriers which bit every visitor) and her "generosity to others less fortunate than herself" her strange lodger of whom the less said the better....

See - you can be generous and not tell a lie.  ;)

The truth, the whole truth (well, mostly) and nothing but the truth.  ;)
