Hi
I feel you may have a New Zealand soldier, thay had collar badges, if it is the one, it would mean he was with the 3rd Battalion Auckland Regiment.

Thank you both for having a look. I will get in touch with the person who sent me the email and the photo to see if he can make a clearer scan of the badges.  Thanks for your time

I have now been sent a close up picture which shows a lot more detail of the badge.  I have also been told that the original has Thompson photo artist Grosvenor house Belfast written on it. I don't know if that helps or if it just means thats where he was posted at the time

Thanks  Wendy

I've had a close look at both the shoulder letters and the collar badge - The collar badge is the letter 'C' over the number 3. And the shoulder letters only show the last which look like 'CG'. I dont know if this helps in any way, and I am sorry I cant expand on military insignia.

I have never seen a British Army badge like this. The tunic looks British though. Was there any connection with Empire countries in your family? Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa etc. etc.
