On the 1861 census there are three male Colyers all giving a birthdate in Horton close to Henry's. One is Henry himself in Rotherhithe and the other two are Jonathan and James

RG9 469 folio 163
Redstreet Southfleet  Kent
Jonathan Colyer  52 Horton, Kent, Head  Married Ag lab
Hannah Colyer 47  Ifield, Kent,  Wife  Married

RG9 468 folio 13
Green Street Darenth  Kent
James Colyer  48 Horton Kirkby, Kent,  Head  Unmarried Ag lab

Jonathan consistently gives his birthpace as Horton through all the censuses 1851-1871 and is in Southfleet from 1841 onwards. James is a more difficult figure to track.

It is possible to find Jonathan's baptism in the Horton Kirkby registers (though not James')

COLYER, Jonathan
Christening Date:16 Apr 1809   Horton-Kirby, Kent, BTs
Father:   William COLYER
Mother:   Elizabeth

and also

COLYER, Jane
Christening Date:26 May 1811 Horton-Kirby, Kent, BTs
Father:   William COLYER
Mother:   Elizabeth

There is also a baptism for an Ann in 1802 parents William and Sarah and then baptisms start again in the 1830s for parents William and Lydia.
The BVRI is using BTs up to 1813 when its source is the parish registers themselves.
Horton Kirby registers are on CityArk.

And I thought I had gone through all those parish registers on CityArk!!   :-[
Valda, I appreciate your help so much, and realise that it takes time on your part to find these records. I made a decision recently that every time some one helped me this way, I would put aside a little money, until eventually I can buy some cd's etc. myself. It just doesn't seem right to be forever taking, and I really look forward to the first time I am able to answer a request made on rootschat!
So thank you very much Valda - I see the many posts you make in response to our requests, and am really grateful, as, I am sure, others are also.
Warm regards,
Pauline

Sorry - accidentally hit the post button!
William 1844, Elizabeth c1849 and others, but I wondered if you think they named their first two children after themselves, then William and Elizabeth for henry's parents? (Bearing in mind there are two other Colyers you told me about, b. Horton with parents William and Elizabeth)
Just a thought anyway Valdi - I'll complete the post soon.
many thanks,
Pauline (Perilous)

Hi

Is Henry Colyer's baptism not there in the Horton Kirby registers on CityArk?

Not a sign of it Valda. And better eyes than mine have looked for it too!! ::)
The only way we know his birth as in Horton Kirby is from the census returns which he states pretty consistantly. Its a mystery! ???

Hi

It could be spent all my life in Horton, perhaps born there also, but baptised in an adjoining parish where my parents went to live for a short period of time. That would be the most hopeful scenario.
