JANE family in Tasmania - advice please
« on: Tuesday 29 August 06 06:01 BST (UK) »
On this absolutely beautiful late winter's day, greetinge Rootschatters!

I would appreciate some help/advice...

I have just received an email from the Launceston library confirming the dates Thomas and Sarah JANE were living in Tasmania - 1903-1910 they had a farm in St Patricks River. (Post Office Directories) The 1903 Electoral Roll lists them living in the "town" of North Esk. What a magnificent part of the world!

So now I've found my family...it's wonderful!  :) :) :)

My grandfather, Horace JANE, was born in 1899. He spent a considerable part of his childhood in the Esk area. I would like to try and "flesh out" his childhood, and also learn of the life his family would have lead during those years.

Where to from here? What sort of information can I expect to be able to find about them during these years that they were living in this area, and how do I set about achieving that please. I would appreciate some direction.

Also, is there any possibility of shipping records existing for their journey both to and from Tasmania?

Cheers

Elsie
