Metal photo?
« on: Tuesday 29 August 06 20:56 BST (UK) »
I have a tiny metal photo of a great grandad. You can just about see him in it. Does anyone have any idea how I could copy it or hope to improve it?

Hi Brigcs  :)

You have a tintype  :D
They are notorious for having very low contrast and for sometimes being very dark.
The best way to copy them is to scan them, and try to manipulate the scan to improve the image - fiddle with contrast and levels (not brightness which just makes it go white!)
A couple of other people recently have had tintypes that they've scanned and posted on this board - see these threads:

Thanks Prue,

I'll have a go at it tonight and see how I get on. My daughter is having a birthday sleepover so I'll be hiding out here on the computer all evening! If I can't sort it myself I'll try to scan the picture to see if anyone can help.

Best wishes

Brig
