GENT Bulwell Nottinghamshre
« on: Wednesday 30 August 06 22:47 BST (UK) »
I am hoping someone can help me get further with this family. I do have quite a bit but I want to do an in depth research on this family. The bits concerning Nottingham are

John Gent c 1794 Bulwell Nottingham
Ann Stafford c1794 Nottingham

Their children were

Thomas Gent c1814 Bulwell Nottingham
Jacob Stafford Gent 1826 Bulwell Nottingham
Henry Gent 1828 Bulwell Nottingham
Eliza Gent 1830 Bulwell Nottingham
Samuel Gent 1832 Bulwell Nottingham

Jacob married Anne Alsop born 1830 Clowne Derbyshire, they married 1849.

Any help would be appreciated

Christine

Hi Christine

Thanks for the Email.  Just managed to find my Gent lot but really need to go to bed now.

I don't recognise those names I'm afraid.

I have got back as far as William Gent born 1806 Bulwell but don't know a thing his past or even his wife's name. My Gent line is descended from his son George born 1825 Bulwell who married Ruth Everley.

There may well be a link between your John and my William but reckon it would take a trip to the Parish Records to find out.

I live in Surrey now and have no relatives left in Nottinghamshire since my brother died so no longer visit up there. I think I have a wad of notes somewhere that I will try and find just in case something is noted on there.

Any help would be appreciated - do you need help to trace John's ancestry or help on the various census since 1841 - I can obviously help with the latter.

Will come back to this tomorrow

Thanks for that bearkat! it usefully tells us that the 1812 marriage was by licence and the University of Nottingham has some marriage bonds and allegations online.

If you go to

http://longford.nottingham.ac.uk/DServe/dserve.exe?dsqApp=Archive&dsqDb=Roles&dsqCmd=NottSearchForm.tcl

and search Stafford, Ann in the name field, their marriage is the first entry up. You can look for yourself but it says that Ann's father was Jacob Stafford and she was 19 at the time of marriage. So we have a birth approx for Ann of about 1792-1794 from the marriage and burial records.

There are a couple of baptisms that might interest you, although I can't see Ann.

20/05/1791 John Stafford to Jacob and Elisabeth, Bulwell
26/09/1796 Sarah Stafford to Jacob and Elisth, Bulwell

There is a marriage at Bulwell 06/08/1789 of Jacob Stafford and Elizabeth Walker.

Interestingly 06/07/1808 Nottingham St Mary, a Jacob Stafford married a Martha Walker and they had at least two children in Bulwell.

James 29/07/1809
John 11/02/1821

Son or second marriage do you think?

And I've just noticed that on Ann's 1812 marriage, the first proxy was George walker, blacksmith of Bulwell. I think we're along the right lines here  ;)
