It is sad isn't it then when you know that David's (my husband) Dad was 84 and his Grandfather was 94 when they died. It just shows how things have changed.

Eliza Gent born 1830/31 is last seen on the 1851 census at home(re Heather's posting).

There is no Eliza Gent b 1830/1 Bulwell on the 1861 census.
There is an Eliza Smith born 1831 Bulwell living Bulwell and is the only possible match. She is married to William Smith.

On the Notts Marriage Index we have a marriage of Eliza Gent to William Smith 21/10/1852 Bulwell

On the 1861 census she is living next door to dad John Gent and brother Samuel Gent as seen in my previous posting

I have just noticed that John Gent on the 1861 is recorded as Blind -will add that to the previous posting

Look at this - we had them all the time in 1871 and brother Samuel is with them. I do like Jig Saw Puzzles Why couldn't he be recorded as Brother

And that Ann Bexon will turn out to be the daughter, I expect. No other children for William and Eliza though.

Now a little mystery. I think that Ann Smith was illegitimate because I can only find a marriage between James Bexon and Ann Gent  Qrt ending December 1868 Basford 7b 165.

Bexon isn't that common a name I reckon so these must be your people.

Eliza Smith does not appear on the 1881 census.

There are 2 death references in Bulwell. One is for Eliza Smith born 1831 registered in 1873 Bulwell. The other is for Elizabeth Smith born 1831 registered 1873

As Eliza always appeared as Eliza I would think the first one is correct. Don't know if you will be sending for certs but this is the reference

William Smith is a bit more tricky. Can't see a William Smith born 1828 Bulwell on the 1881 census.

What I can see is a William Smith born 1828 Nottinghamhire
Widower
Boarding at 29 Bridge Street, Derby Derbyshire with lots of other Boarders. He is an umbrella Maker.

Can't verify that this is your man, though.
