Hmm you have a toughie

Through one source I was able to find a J. H. Wainwright from Niagra Falls who was deceased February 11, 1990 Service #R145793 who was enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force.

According to the source he was born about 1919.

Found a site of a niagara falls cemetaries found 3 wainwrights.

Found from the Niagara Falls Library an index for Wainwrights (including obits)
Search under Wainwright.

At the above link there is an historical photograph of John Wainwright as apart of a baseball team.

I hope this helps...my wife and yourself have relative in the same general area.

Good luck

Jeff

Hi Jeff
Thank you very much for your reply,I hardly know where to start.Firstly my search for John lead me to his sister Olive which was what I was hoping for.,she appeared on the same page as the baseball team. The entry was DePottie,Olive Gertrude/d Wainwright death announcement.I am not sure what DePottie is or the d (death?)after her name.Olive is my father's cousin and I hve been researching her whereabouts in Canada for a long time. There is quite a story atached to her as a young child here in the UK.Also her father Thomas met an untimely end when he plunged to his death believed to be in the Niagara Falls in 1928.
I have excellant pictures that I downloaded of the family plot in Fairview cemetary.
Getting back to John,he could well be the John I am seeking and it is interesting to note that he played for Buckley's East Enders and the family at one time lived in Buckley Ave,NF More research needed there.
Perhaps you could let me know what DePottie means, it sounds like an index. Thanks again Jeff you have certainly got me going again.
Vic

The name Olive DePottie is most likely her married name put her maiden name for further clarification.  That index is for obituary in the local paper The Review, the date given is when it was published in the paper. The Barbara McCracken is probably a relation and is published under her married name and maiden name.   You can contact the library to try and get a copy of or a transcription of the obituary (there may be a small fee involved).

On a side note, I did find 4 Depottie's living in Niagara and a few Wainwrights nearby.

Happy hunting,
Jeff
