Where is this Place? PHOTO

Hi Yall!

I have today received this rather interesting photo taken on Boxing Day 1886 on Brighton Beach Australia.  Other than that i have no idea whether these people are of my Price, Wightman or Coton trees, but I suppose I can get a head start if I can find out where exactly Brighton Beach is - Can anyone help!

Hi Jan

No idea where Brighton Beach is/was (wrong side of the planet!) but I'm curious about this photo.

It might be my imagination, but the photo looks somehow articifial as if it is a composite of several other photos.  The lighting doesn't quite look right, nor does the perspective.  What do the panel think?

i can see your thinking!  I have reposted the photo without trying to reduce the file size - are you still thinking it may be composite? I think it has faded in certain parts - maybe its a studio set?

It is very crisp. but the bushes are not European, and I would take it at face value. Our antipodean members may be able to help.

According to a Google search Brighton Beach is in Victoria on Port Phillip Bay outside Melbourne.

I have a friend in Sydney, Australia, who could help - but (gasp!  ;)) he does not have a computer and I can only contact him by (oh, golly) writing a..... letter!
