I have been working obsessively lately on my Murphy family from Ballon and thought I would put them out here, in case any Rootschatter has a link. Michael Murphy and Anne Keeley were married in Ballon and had 7 sons, and possibly one daughter (John,
Patrick, Thomas, Edward, Myles, Joseph, Michael, Margaret). The whole family (at least parents and boys) came to America, sometime in the 1850s. I do know that Thomas's wife, Catherine Clowry, was also from Carlow, but I don't know where they married. John became a Jesuit brother in the Midwest. Patrick was married twice, with 2 children from each wife (I am from the 2nd wife). He settled in Cohoes, NY. One child from the first married a Finnuken. Thomas and Catherine had many children and lived in Mt. Pleasant, NY. Edward had 3 wives and many children also. The family was in NYC, and one daughter married a Finan. Myles was a NYC police officer. I believe he married twice. One daughter married a Stephens (would love to find them) and one son was head of Holy Cross College for a while. Joseph married twice and outlived both wives, although he died in 1879, leaving orphaned children. I am not sure how many or what happened to them, but have started looking into orphanages in Westchester County, NY to try to find them. I don't know what happened to Michael. I have him in the 1860 NYC census with his parents and brother Myles, but can't confirm him anywhere else.
So that's my Murphys. There were loads of priests and nuns and from the looks of it, not many descendants, but there's got to be some out there, right?
