Malone...Lymm,Bowden,Dunham Massey
« on: Wednesday 06 September 06 12:26 BST (UK) »
Many of my family appear to have come from this area of Cheshire eg John/Frances;John/Alice;Alexander/Ann and John/Elizabeth.
Is it possible, please,to identify who is in relation to whom ie father son, brother, cousin etc.?
Will I have to visit the area to discover more details?
Ooops, sorry these relatives lived from 1726 to 1871.

Hi KLM,

It gets more difficult as you go further back as you have found, but there different sources that you can use.  The Cheshire Family History Society publish Monument Inscriptions for some graveyards in microfiche format - they are reasonably priced and you can order them online at genfair.  Your local library should have a microfiche reader that you can use.  It will depend whether your families actually have a stone or not of course.

The obvious source is the parish record, but the lds have filmed many of them and they are available at local LDS centres, again for about £2 - £3 a month (I think!) - you will have to order first and then book a reader with them.  You can find out if there is a centre near you at this link: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Library/FHC/frameset_fhc.asp

The other option is to post on here with specific queries - baptisms can be difficult but there are various marriage indexes available and you could be lucky and find what you are looking for although coverage is by no means complete.

There are also odd sites which have information for specific parishes - this site has Davenham MI's but I can't see any Malones.  And, of course, check out the Cheshire Resources board on here just in case.

Hope this is of some help,

Jean

Hi again KLM,

Here are the inscriptions for Malone at Lymm St Mary:

In Memory of John Malone of Lymm who died April 17th 1859 aged 78 years
Also Hannah his wife who died August 1st 1851 aged 71 years

and next door but one!

Here Lies the Body of Sarah Malone who was interred the 12th of January 1798 aged 44
Also Ellen the daughter of John and Hannah Malone who died December 18th 1813 aged 14 months
Elizabeth wife of Joseph Leah who died May 17th 1870 aged 23 years
Also of Samuel Leah who departed this life July 13 1886 in the 88th year of his age
Also of Mary the wife of Samuel Leah of Heatley who departed this life Nov 1st 1875 aged 66 years

It looks as though Mary Leah who died 1875 was nee Malone, marriage took place 5th November 1827 at Lymm (from CPR database, link provided in previous thread) - I'd guess that she is probably the daughter of John & Hannah.

You may already have this, but hope it is of some help,

Jean

Sarah Malone, alias Sally Statham, was murdered by John Thornhill, the Butler at Lymm Rectory. Thonhill was hanged at Chester. Lymm & District Local History Society has produced a booklet "What the Butler Did" available from me via lymmhistory [-- at --] lineone.net, Joe Griffiths
