HUGHES Family of Lurgan
« on: Wednesday 06 September 06 20:09 BST (UK) »
Does anybody know of a Michael Hughes, born in Lurgan c.1866. His father was a farmer called Patrick Hughes, and his mother was called Bridget/Brigid Hughes. Her maiden name was, as far as I can see on Michael's death certifcate, Fachen, possibly Tachen. Michael was born in Lurgan, but it is possible he greww up in Downpatrick. Any info appreciated

Micahel moved to Scotland where he married a Mary Ann McDonald, maiden name Owens (she had been widowed). They married on January 1 1894 in Holytown, Lanarkshire.

Hello Matthew,

I've not come across the surname Fachen or Tachen before. Have a look for it in Griffith's Valuation of Ireland 1848-64. Other websites that might help in finding this family are .. Irish Ancestors Surnames and the Ros Davies Co. Down, Ireland, Genealogy Research site. I think the spelling of the name may have altered slightly.

All the Best, Christopher

I have Faichens in my family tree - mine were from Hampshire but in my research I have spotted them in Scotland and I think there may have been some living in Ireland too!
Good luck with your research

Hi guys,

I have been doing some digging of late and I have found ut that my Bridget's surname was not Fachen, it was Feighan. I found her son's baptism in the parish of Derrynoose, County Armagh, to parents Patrick and Bridget. The date is given as Feb 14.

I also found Patrick and Bridget's marriage on the same site (brsgenealogy.com), which was in Derrynoose too, dated June 24 1861, but no names of parents given. Dang!

I love researching Ireland. This discovery now means I might have to hop over in the summer and visit County Armagh. See what I can see etc

Norh,

This information is absolutely brilliant, I have three new siblings of Michael to add to my tree. I have PM'd you again with my thanks.

It just goes to show the importance of keeping threads like this, that are just under four years old.

This is a bit of a brickwall smashing for me, so thanks very much. It really is great to hear from you!

Matt :)

Hi again Reayboy,
Ive just found more children born to Patrick and Bridget. John born 1849, Catherine born 1853 and James born 1856. This might mean you`ve got the wrong Hughes if your Patrick & Bridget were married in 1861. However, if you PM me your address ill send you a photocopy of the records and you can decipher the information yourself. OK?
Regards Noreen
