Can anyone point me to a Site that will explain all the various trades and skills that were employed in the Slate industry?

Many thanks for your reply,and my query arises out of a Census Entry which states that someone was a Slate Enameller.

I've never come across the term before - I understand enamelling in ceramics but slate  ???

Isnt enamelling in slates where they polish using wet and dry method meaning water and very fine emery paper until it shines like a new car or a tile?
