George SMALLMAN born c1861 Herefordshire?
« on: Friday 08 September 06 13:45 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help me find George Smallmans parents?
George was born c1861 in Crow Hill, Herefordshire or Upton Bishop, Herefordshire.
The 1881 census shows him in Pembridge, Herefordshire (Head of household William Fletcher). George is a blacksmith, also with him is Edwin Smallman b c1856 also Crow Hill. Poss brother???
1891 finds him in Fishpool,Herefordshire, still a blacksmith married to Caroline (Caroline Esther Bubb) with 3 children.
I believe they had more children than that though.

Can anyone trace them on the 1901 census?
What happened to Edwin?
Can anyone trace George Smallman on any of the earlier censuses, 1841/51/61 or 1871? I'm desperate to find his parents.

Just realised what I've written doesn't make sense! Of course George will only appear on the 1871 (and poss 1861) census having been b c1861!! ::)

However if anyone does find him on those can they see if they can find his parents on the earlier censuses?

Many thanks.

Tati and Down Under,
Thanks so much for the info. I've had George and a few other Smallmans hanging around for ages, fairly sure they belonged to my tree (most Herefords/Glos Smallmans seem to belong!) but not quite sure where. You've solved part of the mystery....George definately belongs as William and Elizabeth, HIS grandparents, are my 3x greats! Just got to find Georges parents now......hmmmm
