Sorry, I meant to add. Margaret Docherty's (wife of James McGuire) mother name was Marjory which make me more confident that, at least in the early years, we have the right details for your Marjory.

To take away all doubt, have you seen your mother's 1934 birth cert to confirm parents' names?

Joker found most of that info for me and informed me Marjory died 1970, her name is the only one on my mums birth and death cert.
Many thanks for your help now have to figure out why and when my mums name got changed from Constance Doherty to Jean Lennox and why she gave her away

There is a possible marriage entry coming up on SP for her parents:

1882   MCGUIRE   JAMES   DOCHERTY   MARGARET   ARDROSSAN OLD   /AYR   576/01 0040

It would mean that father James could have been married previously to account for the older children in the home in the 1891 Census. It would be worthwhile you looking at Marjory's birth cert. to confirm parents' names and date/place of their marriage. Alternatively, you could try to find her marriage or death cert, both which would confirm parents' names.

Regards.

Monica

ADDED: Just a thought, with the years you have given in your first post, Marjory would have been 48-9 at the time of your mother's birth (1934), quite an age to still be giving birth.....any chance we have skipped out a generation here?

Hi greendoor and Monica,

I wondered about the length of time that elapsed between the date of Marjorie's marriage to Toby in 1908 and the birth of greendoor's mum in 1934.

I feel there should be other children and wonder if greendoor has been following the line of more than one person. Marjorie's age ... 48 or 49 ... may not have been uncommon if she'd had a large number of children but would have been on the old side for a first child.

I think that it was Marjory’s daughter who was also called Marjory (born 1914) who is your mum.
Marjory (1886) was my wife’s grandmother.

You can exchange your personal emails via the Personal Message service (PMs). Just click on the icon with a scroll type image to the left under someone's avatar/user name. If the person is online, this turns green. Works very much like all messaging services.

Good luck in your searches  :)

Hi Monical
I known you helped Greendoor a good few years ago with their search for Marjory Doherty/McGuire/Wilders/Burns.
I have found out quite a few facts about her as she was my wife's grandmother.
I know this was first posted in 2006.I had messaged Greendoor but not too sure if she is still active on here or still living.
