Appleby Girls' School
« on: Wednesday 13 September 06 13:16 BST (UK) »
Hello All,

My Gran attended a girls' "finishing school" in Appleby. My Mum thinks the name of which had something to do with Lady Anne Clifford. My Gran was born in 1896 Crosby Ravensworth so would probably attended this school from 1911 onwards. I have searched the historical directories but can find nothing. Does anyone know of a "finishing school" for girls around that time in Appleby?

Thanks,

Gillian

Have you looked at street directories for that time?   Many are online at http://www.historicaldirectories.org
Worth a try anyway.   Schools etc were usually mentioned.   Kendal Record Office may know too.

Hello Andrea,

I have gone through all the directories for that period & found nothing. Yes I think a trip to Kendal Records office is the only way forward!
