McNally - Townland of Shanco
« on: Friday 15 September 06 14:39 BST (UK) »
Thank you for taking time to read this post. The information below was given to me by a Priest who looked up the baptismal record for Mary Ann McNally.

Elizabeth FOX McNally and her husband Patrick McNally were living in the Townland of Shanco which is 5 to 6 miles west of Carrikmacross at the time of the baptism for their daughter Mary Ann McNally September 22 , 1878.

Perhaps you're related to the McNally's living in and around Shanco? Can anyone tell what Parish that's in?

Thank you,
Patrick Ryan

Hello Patrick.

I think the place in Cavan is SHANCORN which is located
in the parish of Annagh.

The Griffiths Valuation Index (1847-1864 ) shows no
McNally or Fox in this parish.

Both surnames do appear together in various other
townlands and parishes.

Thank you for your reply. I did some more research and found the townland of Shanco to be located in the Civil Parish of Magheross, Co Monaghan. This area would be west of Carrickmacross as indicated by the Priest.
