Tom "Gunner" Gascoigne - colour please
« on: Monday 18 September 06 03:59 BST (UK) »
I have been admiring the good subtle colour work done by some of our talented RCs and would like them to have a go at colouring my great uncle "Gunner" Gascoigne.

Tom was a gunner in the Australian Navy and was injured and lost an eye in the battle when HMAS Sydney took on and sank the German cruiser Emden. Reportedly stayed at his gun and kept firing even though severely injured. He also claimed to be the first, or among the first, Australian servicemen to set foot on enemy territory immediately after the outbreak of war when a party from the "Sydney" landed near Rabaul, then the capital of the German Colony of New Guinea, in order to destroy the radio station there.

Here's my first try - not too sure about the colour of the uniform so may just change it later

Good going Carol  :D

I think Gunner had mid-brown hair (hard to really tell with all the bryl cream they used back then) and grey-blue eyes are a family trait.

Hi Tomkin,

I like what you've done with the floor and the earth tones in the backdrop! (I can't comment on the uniform - have no familiarity with what would be appropriate colours.)

cheers,
g a r

Wow, thanks Carol, Tomkin and Kazza - great work by our talented bunch of RCs. Look how shiny his boots are.

I have a family reunion planned for Nov 11 (Rememberance Day) and I am sure all the Gascoigne descendants will be chuffed to see the fabulous work you have done in adding colour to "Gunner" Gascoigne

Cheers Sue
