Kinnes/Kinnis, Markinch/Leslie
« on: Tuesday 19 September 06 15:12 BST (UK) »
Nearly everyone I've spoken to from boards like this are connected to the Kinnes/Kinnis family in some way, I was just wondering if anyone here was.

If anyone has any information on the following I'd be most grateful:

James Kinnes/Kinnis (b. 1811) (m. Isabella Wilson 1839).

Their children:

William Kinnes (b.1843) (m. Christina Ostler 1873, Catherine Marshall 1872, Marjory Hughes 1864).
Janet Kinnes (b. 1853).
James Kinnes (b 1839).
John Kinnes (b. 1857).
Robert Kinnes (b. 1850).

Also if anyone knows anything about the connection between this Kinnes family and the ones in Dundee I'd be eternally grateful.

Perhaps he was the son of Alexander Kinnes, He and Elizabeth were married about that time.

Elizabeth whom? I've not got Alexander's wife's name, but yes that's who I'm looking for.

Elizabeth Runsman / Runciman.

Married 22/01/1811 at Inchture, Perth.

Elizabeth was christened 3/09/1786 also at Inchture.

Her parents were John Runciman and Eizabeth Donaldson.

Thanks, that's most helpful. :)

Do you have other Kinneses on your tree? I've got lots, going back to c.1730 when the name was Kinnison.

Alexander and Elizabeth are the earliest I have so far, I hadn't realised that they changed their name, I wonder why ? Highland clearances perhaps.

I would love to see that line, did you know that their grandson Robert was pretty successfull in Dundee by the way.

I didn't know which ones settled in Dundee. I'm more interested in the Markinch ones but still.

Do you use GenesReunited?
