Bernard Clarke, Carrickmacross
« on: Thursday 21 September 06 11:45 BST (UK) »
Bernard Clarke & wife Catherine Clarke of Carrickmacross, Co. Monaghan IRE were listed as parents of their son Eugene Clarke's 1st marriage to Mary Ann McShane of Dungannon, Co. Tyrone at St. Audoen's RC Church, Dublin Mar 1857.

Eugene, b. 1824 (Carrickmacross?), was a Draper in Drogheda, Co. Louth.   Possible relative Robert Clarke, Draper and Haberdasher, Carrickmacross (Pigot's Directory, 1824).

I am descendant of Eugene Clarke and his 2nd wife Frances M. J. O'Neill.

Any additional information would be most welcome.

Hello PJC,

You'll have to rely on Church records as civil registration in Ireland was not introduced until 1864. Non Catholic marriages were registered from 1845 onwards. When registration for BDMS started in 1864 some people didn't bother with the registration for a few years after that date. Keep your fingers crossed that church records still exist.

In the Civil Marriage Register of his son Eugene Clarke's marriage in 1865, I found that Bernard Clarke was a Hat Manufacturer
