Bedford Marriage 1899 - BURTON/STARK
« on: Friday 22 September 06 11:43 BST (UK) »
Dear Rootschatters,
Does anyone have acvcess to more up to date marriage records? I know that some records offices have everything on computer so it is easy to find the exact place of marriage. I am in Devon,so cannot get to Bedford. If anyone could look this up for me it would be great. The marriage is in the June quarter of 1899 between Mary Jane Burton of Falmouth and Henry Richard A Stark of London.I don't know why they were in Bedford.
Thanks
Kind Regards
Nooshie

I am planning to visit BedsCC archives mid October. If you can wait that long I'll look up the marriage cert from the parish register if I can find it. Any idea which Bedford parish it may be ? as Bedford RD covers several villages in North Beds.

I had a look at the main Bedford town parishes for the marriage in 1899 but no luck -- as Steph suggests, order your certicate from the GRO

I dont think you can advance until you have marriage cert...

Cant think why this couple would be in Bedford in that year...I thought perhaps the wife may be at one of the girls schools here - and her husband was a soldier [Boer War etc] stationed here where there was an army garrison ...there is nothing in the Beds Archives to date on them @ http://blars.adlibsoft.com/beginner/indnms.html

Then I thought perhaps the parents were tradesmen/or professional persons - see
http://www.historicaldirectories.org/hd/findbykeyword.asp

Hopefully, the marriage cert will give you a church - ages, occupations & witnesses etc - as there are dozens & dozens of churches that come under the Bedford district re BMD

Bedfordshire: Worker [Flitton]; Ames [Kempston]; Manton [Kempston]; Morris [?]; Valentine [Kempston]; Two & Osborn [Cranfield]

Herfordshire and West London: Brown [Kent in early 19th C]; Blackwell.
