Jacob Henry Granger: Another twist added
« on: Sunday 24 September 06 08:19 BST (UK) »
Jacob Henry Granger was born in 1848,  Kent England  and is believed to have arrived in New Zealand abt 1866 and settled in Foxhill Nelson. So it is possible he landed in Nelson.
He married Mary Jane Andrews in 1874 in Wakefield. I would like to know what ship he arrived on and did he travel alone.

Hi Jericho,

I've just found this on the web...http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~nzbound/from_range_to_river.htm

Waimea South Historical Society. 'From River to Range'. Gives names and brief biographies of many early families immigrating to the Nelson region 1840-1880.   To commemorate the 150th  anniversary of European settlement. These names appear in the booklet...

GRANGER Jacob Henry 1848-1893

This is more than likely your guy.  Maybe you should give it a shot and try the WSHS to see if they have some more details on how and when he arrived.

Cheers

Hi Jericho

Unfortunately the entry in the book doesn't say which ship he came on - it says that he died in a horse and trap accident and lists his wife, children and their spouses and the family of the son Charles Alfred.  Let me know if you want the full entry for him or others.

Regards, Bronwen

Hi Jericho,

Since I've got to go down to Archives for something else in the next week or so I'll have a look to see if your Mr Granger turns up in the passenger index, yeah?

Cheers
