Moss Alley was built in 1881

Thanks for that, surely it was built before that though as I have ancestors living there in the mid 1800s and it was also on that 1790 map?

Moss Alley can be found in squares D5 (named) and n25 (un-named) to the left of Southwark Bridge

Sorry to butt in but I think it is now called New Globe Walk.  It is next to Bear Alley which if you look at the next page East of very old map you will see was there then.

Or perhaps not looking at the above maps.  Anyway its near the Globe Theatre

I think you are right Sylviaann, it does look as if the Globe has been developed on the site of Moss Alley.

Anthony the only thing I can think of is the last known addition to Moss Alley was built in 1881. I have used the site before and if it has definite records it will show more than one date when a street was built.

Looks like a good site for a Rootschat meet 2007

Great maps Dawn, presume then if Moss Alley was still on the 1937 map then the Lufwaffe were probably responsible for its demise. I shall look through the Blitz Then and Now volumes to see if it gets a mention at all.

What a great idea a Rootschat meet at the Globe Theatre 

I love looking at old maps and find them fascinating, and current ones as well.
